Tammy Meltzer

Tammy Meltzer is a longtime Lower Manhattan resident, community leader, and event professional. She served as Chair of Manhattan Community Board 1 from 2020 through 2026, following eight years as Vice Chair and Chair of the Battery Park City Committee. CB1 represents Tribeca, the Financial District, the Seaport/Civic Center, and Battery Park City and has a formal role in advising the City on land use, development, local budget priorities, City services, transportation, housing, and public space.

Meltzer became Chair just as New York entered the COVID-19 pandemic. She helped lead CB1 through an unprecedented disruption in civic life, quickly moving the board’s meetings and public engagement online and helping ensure that community voices continued to be heard when in-person government came to a halt. During her tenure, she addressed some of Lower Manhattan’s most consequential issues, from coastal resiliency and major infrastructure projects to housing, transportation, public space, and neighborhood quality of life.

As Chair, Meltzer worked at the intersection of residents, businesses, elected officials, City and State agencies, developers, and community organizations. She is known for bringing diverse stakeholders to the table, asking difficult questions, pushing for meaningful community engagement, and translating complex government and development issues into practical community priorities.

Her professional background in event planning and consulting has shaped her approach to community leadership. She is a hands-on organizer who brings people together, manages complex moving parts, builds relationships, and focuses on turning ideas into action. A mother of three who raised her children in New York City public schools, Meltzer brings a lived, family perspective to issues affecting neighborhood life. She is also an unabashedly multimodal New Yorker—using buses, subways, cars, and bikes—and comes from a family of bicyclists.

A graduate of Cornell University, Meltzer has lived in Lower Manhattan for over three decades. She remains active in CB1 leadership and will serve as Treasurer beginning in September 2026, while continuing her work on Lower Manhattan’s civic, waterfront, and public-space issues.
